KRAKEN ROBOTICS

The JOURNEY of Co-op

As a part of the degree requirement, I need to do an internship term at the end of my program and this is where I came in the contact with Kraken Robotics. Kraken Robotics Inc. is a marine technology company engaged in the design, development and marketing of advanced sensors, software and underwater robotics for Unmanned Maritime Vehicles used in military and commercial applications. At Kraken, I was a Design and Marketing Intern where I worked on improving the UI/UX of their website.

First, I analysed their old website and listed all the flaws. Then, I talked with higher management to know their point of view and understand the requirements. Based on that, I created wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes to give them the actual feel of the website. After some design iterations, we finally came up with the final design of the website.

Once the design was finalized and approved from the higher management, I communicated with the software team to explain then exactly how I designed those wireframes and how we can build the website together. This website will be used by Sales and Marketing people working at Kraken and for investors of Kraken Robotics Inc. So, keeping everything in mind and reducing the number of clicks, The dev team and I shortlisted total six pages from where one can get every detail about the Kraken Robotics.

Ending Remarks:

When I started my co-op, I had no clue about the ocean sector and its technologies but as I was working with one then; I am now more curious to know everything about it. There are vast opportunities in the ocean sector for students like me where they can put their best foot forward and help companies in the advancement of ocean technologies through Machine Learning, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and UI/UX skills. Being a Design and Marketing Intern, I provided inputs in the website development and designing infographics for any data. Apart from that, I enjoyed working with the team who was welcoming, friendly and supported me in every situation where I needed their help.

Though I am from the Computer background, it is always good to have some extra knowledge about your company and hence I went on one of the product testings in the very first week of my internship where I got to know how Sonar system works and how can we see the live ocean surface (a.k.a. underwater Seabed) through the Sonar technology. We explored dumped cars and old Halifax-Dartmouth ferry near George Island while testing the product. That experience was very new for me and I want to give the same experience to everyone with the help of my skills and mixture of emerging technology like AR and VR.
